Assessment of an insect bite
Signs of a sudden allergic reaction:
- Sudden sharp pain.
- Swelling of the lips, tongue, cheeks, and palate.
- Possible difficulty breathing with bluish discoloration of the lips and face.
- A wheezing sound may be heard while breathing.
What measures should you take?
Dial the emergency number 112 immediately
- Calm the child and provide a sense of security.
- Move to an insect-free environment.
- Seat the child upright or hold them on your lap.
- Cooling of the mouth and throat is important:
- Use a cold, damp washcloth.
- Let the child suck on ice or ice cubes, but only if they are able to swallow, awake, and older.
- Provide the child with continuous care.
- Ensure sufficient fresh air supply.
