Asthma attack

Assessment of an asthma attack

Symptoms and background information:

  • The child already has a known asthma condition, which is documented by the asthma card.
  • There is a possibility that certain allergy-triggering factors play a role, such as animal hair, pollen, nuts as food, physical activity like school sports, or emotional stress.
  • The child suffers from shortness of breath, especially when exhaling.
  • There is a wheezing sound when breathing.
  • Cough with thick mucus occurs.
  • Accompanying symptoms include dizziness, anxiety, and restlessness.
What measures should you take?

Dial the emergency number 112 immediately

  • Remove the child from the environment that could trigger the allergy.
  • Slightly raise the upper body and lift the arms a little.
  • Loosen tight clothing around the neck, chest, and abdomen.
  • Stand the child calmly to the side and provide a sense of safety.
  • Instruct the child to inhale through the nose and exhale through slightly pursed lips, which can make exhaling easier.
