Testicular pain

Assessment of testicular pain

Important points to observe:

  • Intense to very severe pain in the testicular area, which may extend to the lower abdomen
  • Swelling and discoloration of the testicle (red to bluish)
  • Overheating of the testicle, possibly accompanied by fever in the boy
  • Possibly additional symptoms such as nausea and vomiting
What measures should you take?

  • Stay calm and provide a sense of security through continuous care
  • Respect the child’s privacy and ask uninvolved persons to leave the room
  • Avoid giving the child food or drink to prevent possible nausea from the pain and because a surgery may be necessary
  • Provide gentle cooling of the testicle with moist, cold cloths
  • Remove tight clothing to avoid pressure
  • Carry the boy if necessary to avoid any physical exertion
  • Important: In case of any testicular pain, a pediatrician should be consulted immediately to rule out circulatory disorders and minimize the risk of infertility.
