Assessment of acute abdominal pain
Important points to observe:
- Hunched posture due to severe pain (possibly with crying and restlessness)
- Pale facial color with sweat on the forehead
- Loss of appetite
- Symptoms of nausea and vomiting
- Constipation/diarrhea in gastrointestinal diseases
- WARNING: In case of acute appendicitis: Pain in the lower right abdomen, fever, and a tense abdominal wall.
What measures should you take?
- Provide a sense of security and go to a calm place.
- To relieve abdominal pain, place the child on their side with bent legs or, in a supine position, place a pillow under the knees.
- The child should not eat – no solid food; tea may be offered if necessary.
If the mentioned measures do not lead to improvement, promptly consult a doctor or call 112. Your personal safety is of utmost importance. Stay calm and composed in every emergency situation.
