Estimated reading time:
Assessment of a fainting episode
Important points to observe:
- Symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and general weakness
- Unsteady gait up to brief memory lapses and loss of consciousness (for a few seconds)
- Check for possible causes: Too little food or fluid intake? Standing for a long time? Stress? High temperatures?
What measures should you take?
- Stay calm and give the child a sense of security
- Move to a quiet environment and monitor the child continuously
- Ensure fresh air and elevate the child’s legs
- Place a cool cloth on the forehead and loosen tight clothing around the chest and neck
- Offer sugary drinks to children who are awake
- If the symptoms improve, help the child slowly into a sitting position and let them rest for a few more minutes
- If symptoms worsen, such as repeated loss of consciousness, call emergency services 112 immediately
If the mentioned measures do not lead to improvement, promptly consult a doctor or call 112. Your personal safety is of utmost importance. Stay calm and composed in every emergency situation.
