The assessment
Symptoms and background information:
- Acute shortness of breath
- Sudden cough (with retching)
- Bluish discoloration of the lips and face
- Signs of fear and anxiety
- Watery and reddened eyes
- Watch out for small parts lying around
What measures should you take?
Dial the emergency number 112 immediately
- Place the baby securely in a prone position on your own forearm, with the head in the lowest position.
Perform 5 well-dosed strokes with the flat of your hand between your shoulders.Give each stroke individually and check after each stroke whether the baby is feeling better.
If there is no improvement:Perform 5 compressions on the sternum, as is done during resuscitation.
If there is still no improvement:Alternate between blows and compressions and repeat them until the infant's condition improves or until the emergency doctor arrives.
If the mentioned measures do not lead to improvement, promptly consult a doctor or call 112. Your personal safety is of utmost importance. Stay calm and composed in every emergency situation.
