Assessment of shortness of breath
Important points to observe:
- Audible wheezing while breathing with an open mouth
- Noticeable retraction of the skin around the collarbones or ribs
- Discolored lips, earlobes, and fingers showing a bluish tint
- Signs of fear, restlessness, and wide-open eyes
- Breathing difficulties, both when inhaling and exhaling
- Movable nostrils while breathing
What measures should you take?
Dial the emergency number 112 immediately
- Provide the child with a sense of security and calmly reassure them.
- Loosen tight clothing around the neck, chest, and abdomen.
- Slightly raise the upper body and lift the arms a little.
- Give the child something to lean on, for example, place a pillow behind their back.
- Ensure adequate fresh air supply.
- Investigate possible causes:
→ Asthma-Anfall
→ Allergic reaction
→ Eingeatmeter Fremdkörper
→ Insektenstich im Mundbereich
If the mentioned measures do not lead to improvement, promptly consult a doctor or call 112. Your personal safety is of utmost importance. Stay calm and composed in every emergency situation.
