Assessment of muscle injuries
Important points to observe:
- Intense pain when using the affected body part
- Redness and swelling
- Observed accident, such as a fall or twisting
What measures should you take?
- Calm the child and give them a sense of security.
- Follow the RICE rules:
- PRest: Immediately keep the affected extremity still and stop all activity (protection)
- EIce: Apply cooling measures (wrap an ice pack in a cloth – no direct skin contact)
- CCompression: Apply a compression bandage if you are familiar with it. WARNING: The skin under the bandage should remain pink, do not wrap too tightly
- HElevation: Position the affected body part slightly raised
If pain persists, consult a pediatrician.
If the mentioned measures do not lead to improvement, promptly consult a doctor or call 112. Your personal safety is of utmost importance. Stay calm and composed in every emergency situation.
