What measures should you take?
Bei Symptomen sofort Notruf 112 absetzen
- Stay calm and provide the child with a sense of security through your presence.
- Do not induce vomiting in the child to prevent the toxic or corrosive substance from passing again through the esophagus and mouth.
- In case of chemical burns: Pay attention to your own safety! Wear gloves, rinse the child’s mouth, and let them spit it out.
- Afterwards, carefully offer water to drink – only water, no milk or salt water!
- Determine which substance the child has swallowed.
Call the Poison Information Center: 030/19240 (Germany – Berlin) and wait for further instructions after you have described the problem. The Poison Information Center may recommend medications such as Sab Simplex or Lefax to reduce gas and foam formation, or charcoal tablets to inhibit poison absorption.
If the mentioned measures do not lead to improvement, promptly consult a doctor or call 112. Your personal safety is of utmost importance. Stay calm and composed in every emergency situation.
