Safe on the go

Estimated reading time:

Traveling by car
  1. Child seat safety – correct size, properly installed, check certification
  2. Harness & clothing – no bulky jackets in the seat, straps snug
  3. Take breaks – every 1.5–2 hours, fresh air & movement
  4. Emergency equipment – first aid kit, safety vests, water & snacks
Walking
  1. Child-friendly practice – crossing streets, traffic lights, “holding hands”
  2. Increase visibility – bright clothing, reflectors, safety vests in fall/winter
  3. Stroller safety – brakes, fastening, no heavy bags on the handle
  4. Running & balance bike training – teach traffic rules in a playful way
Traveling by bicycle
  1. Helmet requirement (recommended) – from the first ride in a child seat or trailer
  2. Child seat & trailer – securely fastened, use certified models
  3. Lighting & reflectors – clearly visible even in daylight
  4. Bicycle training for children – balance, braking, basic traffic rules
Traveling by public transport
  1. Practice getting on and off – hold the child’s hand first
  2. Secure the stroller – fold it if possible or apply the brakes
  3. Choose seats – safe and preferably in family or children’s areas
  4. Practice consideration – explain to children in a playful way how to behave on the bus/train
On trips (plane, train, ship)
  1. Follow safety regulations – obtain information from the airline/company in advance
  2. Entertainment & snacks – for a stress-free travel time
  3. Maintain routines – try to stick to sleeping and meal times
  4. Emergency contacts & documents – passports, insurance cards, contact numbers within reach
The tips provided are intended as general guidance for increased safety in daily life and when traveling with children. They do not replace official regulations, legal requirements, or professional advice. Always follow current safety regulations (e.g., child seat laws or helmet use) and the recommendations of experts.
