Development

Estimated reading time:

Your child’s first year of life is an exciting time full of changes. During this phase, motor, cognitive, and social skills develop rapidly. This guide provides an overview of the most important developmental milestones and how you can best support your baby.

Motor Development
  1. 1st to 3rd Month: Your baby begins to lift their head briefly and respond to sounds.
  2. 4th to 6th Month: It learns to roll over, reach for objects, and may even start sitting up.
  3. 7th to 9th Month: Crawling and first attempts to pull themselves up are commonly observed during this phase.
  4. 10th to 12th Month: Many babies take their first steps or stand with support.
Cognitive and Language Development
  1. 1st to 3rd Month: Babies respond to voices and faces, recognizing familiar people.
  2. 4th to 6th Month: They begin to make sounds and explore their surroundings more actively.
  3. 7th to 9th Month: Syllables like “da-da” or “ma-ma” are heard more frequently.
  4. 10th to 12th Month: Your child understands simple instructions and can say their first words.
Social and Emotional Development
  1. 1st to 3rd Month: Babies show their first smiles and enjoy closeness.
  2. 4th to 6th Month: They begin to show a preference for caregivers and display joy.
  3. 7th to 9th Month: Stranger anxiety may occur; your child actively looks for familiar people.
  4. 10th to 12th Month: They develop a stronger bond with you and begin to understand simple social games.
Promoting Development
  1. Plenty of physical contact and loving communication strengthen basic trust.
  2. Playing with age-appropriate toys promotes fine motor skills.
  3. Singing and reading together supports language development.
  4. Patience and encouragement help your baby discover new skills.
