Insect bite
Estimated reading time:
Assessment of an insect bite
Important points to observe:
- Swelling of the mucous membranes and itching
- Visible stinger or bite
- Stings in the mouth, throat, and face area pose a risk of acute breathing difficulty
- Signs of an allergic reaction
What measures should you take?
- Stay calm and give the child a sense of security
- Move to an insect-free environment and monitor the child continuously
- Apply cooling to reduce swelling and relieve pain
- For a bee sting, carefully remove the stinger with tweezers
- Apply an anti-itch gel
Important: If an allergy is suspected, call emergency services 112 immediately! Do not drive the child to the hospital yourself, as symptoms could worsen during the ride. Instead, a paramedic should be called.
If the mentioned measures do not lead to improvement, promptly consult a doctor or call 112. Your personal safety is of utmost importance. Stay calm and composed in every emergency situation.
